Hosting

Every Website, Web App, etc. will need to store the files for that system somewhere, this is what hosing does and so much more.

Website Hosting

If you created a file on your computer or phone you can view that file, but if you want everyone to have the chance to see that file you must give everyone access. You could open your device up to the internet and leave the device on all times, hoping your internet provider will allow it (they usually don’t, it’s in the Ts&Cs) and hope your device doesn’t crash.

And what happens if someone decides to try to hack your device and take other files or just crash the device? All this is for 1 file, what happens if you want to do something clever like a database or show multiple files or even add a domain name, so people don’t have to type in an IP address that is constantly changing?

While it is technically possible to host files, it takes time, specialised software and an internet provider that will be happy to support this.

Instead, we have hosting providers that charge monthly or yearly who do all of this and more for us.

What is it?

Hosting is a computer, bunch of computers or part of a computer attached to the rest of the internet that allows connection over the internet to some of the files. Like any computer it has space to store files, CPU to process the files and memory to run the programs and depending on how much you need of each you will be charged. Most hosting providers will give you an IP address to access this information and some sort of security to stop unwanted access.

There are many types of hosting including Shared, Dedicated and Cloud Services hosting, we at Huyton Web use Cloud Hosting with AWS for most of our hosting needs, but this may change at any time due to cost vs service which we are constantly checking. We’ll help you choose the correct hosting for your business, so you won’t need to worry.
