Microsoft Office price increase is actually a change in plan

Had an email from Microsoft, the cost of Office 365 package will change from £79.99 to £104.99, but it doesn't, that is a change in plan

An email came in today from Microsoft with a a cost increase to the Office 365 plan. It has gone from £79.99 to £104.99, an increase of just under a third. That is a massive jump in cost!

Investigated this to find out exactly what that meant and how best to move to Google Docs

First stop was the Microsoft Billing page. If we click the link to change package, we can change to monthly from yearly and vice-versa. This is no good, still going to cancel. If we hit the cancel subscription button, and there is a cancel subscription OR a downgrade subscription for £79.99, exactly the cost of the original subscription. Reading through the list of features, it IS the original subscription.

So what happened? Microsoft has upgraded the subscription to an AI package with unwanted features and added a third to the price for the privilege.

By clicking the downgrade, the cost is back to the previous year, with the original features, but I expect this will change next year to have no option to keep this subscription. If that happens, it'll probably be time to move to Google Docs or Libre office depending on how the next year plays out.
